Who said pole dancing was just for strippers anyway?

Men and women of all shapes, sizes, and ages are flocking to take classes for what is now one of the most fashionable ways to tone up and stay in shape while boosting self esteem.

Designed with the modern woman in mind, Cheeky Fitness Pole Dancing & Fitness Studio in Royal Palm Beach has ample space for participants to spin, climb or swing on poles rooted in the wooden floors of it's 2000 square foot studio. Classes are small, providing a secure and professional atmosphere. There is no nudity allowed, nor are any spectators.

Most of the pole dancing classes at Cheeky Fitness are approximately 50 minutes in length which makes it a quick alternative to other forms of cardiovascular activity.  Classes are designed for beginning and intermediate fitness levels with a "go at your own pace" environment. 

The introductory pole class is $20. Choose from a variety of classes or take the "Cheeky Challenge" where first, second and third place prizes are awarded to participants after an eight week course of pole dancing, pole conditioning or Zumba classes,(also offered at the studio.) Group, semi-private and private lessons are also available at an additional fee, as well as package deals of six or 12 pole dancing classes.

Pole dancing is one of the best forms of cardiovascular exercises around. It burns roughly between 400-800 calories an hour depending on the intensity and duration of the routine. Participants can expect to increase muscle strength while developing improved posture, balance and flexibility.Because pole dancers must have a great deal of upper and lower body strength to hoist their bodies around the poles, arms, thighs and buttock muscles are quickly developed.

Perhaps the best thing about pole dancing is that it's so much fun, you won't even realize how fast your body is burning calories. Pole dancing is often compared to belly dancing in that is a powerful form of sexual expression.  Many women report feeling an increase in self confidence  and empowerment after taking a class.

Although our studio is large, we keep our class sizes small and intimate.

Pole dancing is lots of fun and a great workout at the same time. You progress at your own pace, from basic low-stress moves in which your feet never leave the ground to high-flying aerial moves that will leave you feeling fit, sexy, and more confident about yourself. Our Pole Fitness classes may not look tough, but they actually build strength, tone your body, and are powerful workouts for every muscle group.

Pole dancing is a great workout that does more than just reduce body fat and help you look great. Pole dancing also will improve your balance, endurance, flexibility, and of course, your overall strength. Cheeky Fitness offers a variety of classes including group lessons, private and semi-private lessons as well as Pole Parties. Workouts are designed for every different size and fitness level and are scheduled to accommodate the busy life of career woman/man and moms. Our current clients range from 18 - 69 years of age and from 90 - 270 lbs.

Hip Hop

Burcin Gursel began her training in ballet and Jazz but has found Hip Hop to be her true passion. She has been immersed in the dance culture since 2002 and her experience comes from Florida Arts and Dance Studios (Stuart, FL), Fabulous Feet Inc.(Jenson Beach, FL), Atlantic Arts Theater (Jupiter FL), Ms. P’s Dance Studio (Weston, FL), Performance Edge 2 (Parkland, FL), Florida Dance Academy (West Palm Beach, FL), Groovelotion Dance Studio (West Palm Beach, FL), as well as an instructor role for DEA Dance conventions. With her passion for dance and love for Hip Hop, Burcin has evolved herself into a versatile instructor. With over 9 years of teaching experience, Burcin has clearly made a prominent reputation for herself. People have always noticed her warm and inviting personality, which helps only to compliment her effective teaching methods. Educating people on the culture of Hip Hop as well as the dance styles evolved would be one of her primary focuses in class. Another value in her teaching would be to include a deep sense of accomplishment and encouragement no matter the prior dance experience. All students leave with an “experience” rather than just a class. Cheeky Fitness in the Palm Beach Post

Start your new year with an alternative fitness routine

So this is New Year's Day. And what have you done, besides suck up every holiday cookie, piece of gingerbread, glass of seasonal nog and mini quiche in sight, as well as replace your usual workout with a series of parties, tree-trimmings and other low calorie-burning activities? (Gift opening is a sport, right?)

Add the extra holiday fluff you've added to your middle with whatever you may have been trying to get rid of before, and you're back at the resolution portion of the New Year's ritual.

And you're reading this story expecting the usual tips from some hard-line personal trainer or aerobics instructor. Surprise!

Since same old, same old doesn't work in the long term (it's a proven fact), we've rounded up a collection of experts with a different approach. Why not replace that treadmill with a ballet barre, or that elliptical machine with a boxing ring?

These tips are specific to each area of fitness expertise, but what they all require are commitment, time ... and the courage to start.

Things pole dance fitness is good for: Balance ("I do this in 6-inch heels"), legs, core, and confidence — "I think most come here for fitness, and some come because it's the new craze, but some come to dance and look at themselves in the mirror. They really like that."

Be prepared: "You do your warmup barefoot, no matter how good you are on the shoes. The warmup for this is like a workout — pushups, stomach exercises. This it about being able to hold your own body weight."

It's about baby steps: "It's all gradual, like anything. Say I can't do a pushup. So I start with one. Day 2, I can do two pushups. And soon I can do 10. It's like with New Year's resolutions. People go to the gym for two weeks and then give up. It's all gradual."

Don't bite — or dance — off more than you can handle: "The new people all want to just jump on the pole the first day. But you have bones (in your pelvis) that you could hurt. There are things you want to learn, like being able to invert, that you can't learn unless you know the basics."
